Pony.

Anybody remember my response to Chris Collins' "Pony" video? Here it is again:

It was recently shown, along with Chris' original, at Chicago's Suitable Video MDW Fair screening room, curated by Scott Wolniak. And someone wrote a blurb about it!

This is pretty exciting to me, considering I've never had anyone write about this work. I don't think I've ever even written about it, besides the YouTube description. So, uh. Thanks, Robert Chase Heishman of the Chicago Artist Writers!

in which i do a series of things

This is the piece that was in the CCAC's Thunderdome show. I'm actually happy with it, which I didn't think I would be. It took me most of the summer to come to this point. Originally it was a video dealing both with deliberate performance and with returning the gaze of the viewer, but it didn't mesh the way I'd hoped. I think I'm going to make a second video dealing with gaze, and maybe they can be shown together if I ever show this again.

The quote that sums up my intent for this video better than any artist statement I could come up with so far goes, "Our bodies are occupied territories. Perhaps the ultimate goal of performance, especially if you are a woman, gay or a person “of color,” is to decolonize our bodies; and make these decolonizing mechanisms apparent to our audience in the hope that they will get inspired to do the same with their own." (Guillermo Gómez-Peña “In Defense of Performance Art” )

Also, originally I wanted to call this "I'm not Dutch," but I don't know if anyone would get the joke.

Apropos nothing, this has been my top/ most-enjoyable time-waster this week: SCP. (Hint: go to the full experiment log.)

things that are happening

Hello. Hi. I'm Anjali. Nice to meet you. This is my blog.

...it's been a while, just thought I'd refresh your memory. I've been up to a limited number of things since the last time I posted. Here's a hint:

My first show as Frank is Saturday at midnight at the Esquire theater. Also that's my sister threatening to chew on my twelve-dollar wig.

I also have a piece up in the CCAC's Thunderdome show which is part of FotoFocus. It's a webcam performance video. I'll post the youtube link after the judging on Saturday, but here's a still:

...not terribly representative of the piece as a whole, but it's just one still.

Erm. I've also finally started to embroider on the comic pages my friend Alex Hananel gave me an eon ago. I'm going to mail those to her tomorrow.

...other than that, not a whole lot's been happening. I've been working on my Halloween costume (Michael Jackson, the "Bad" video outfit) and on my Frank costume (so. much. black-thread-on-black-fabric). That's it, more or less.

Video Performance

I know I've mentioned Chris Collins before, and I probably posted this video...

But since I am totally out of ideas for other video performance pieces, I figured I'd make the one I'd been thinking about doing for a while. Here you go, and you're welcome.

I am totally willing to look ridiculous in the name of art.

I might have posted this before

...but I have a YouTube channel upon which I sometimes post updates about my life or the occasional vlog with my friend Nina. They're random and silly and don't have much to do about art, but I enjoy practicing video/ sound editing, so it's not a total loss.

This was our first, we have maybe 12 up so far. Enjoy?

THIS.

This is just so brilliant. I want to make my photo project at least a quarter as brilliant as this. If I can do that, I'll be VERY pleased with myself.
